Flash The Flesh!

Hello out there!

When a group of bloggers join together for a chat you know that the final result has to be super!! And so this happened once more when, not long ago, we were talking about our preferences between mini and maxi and Becky of doesmyblogmakemelookfat.com  thought that it would be great to create a challenge which goal was to show a little bit more skin and our body (but with style and no vulgarity) showing proudly our curves. And so it was born “Flash the Flesh”.

When the idea came about I instantly knew which part of my body I wanted to flash...

Top: Dress from ASOS
Maxi skirt: ASOS Curve
Gold chain: no clue!

Instead of using a crop top, I decided to take a simple black dress and turn it into a crop top with some pizazz at the back.

I love the fact that I am covered up everywhere else but the one place I constantly try to cover up.

Magnificent 7 does Floral

Hello out there!

I have been very lucky to join a group of ladies for my first style challenge, the magnificent 7!

To give you a brief introduction, on the 7th of every month the ladies and I will post an outfit based on a different theme.

The aim of the challenge is to shop our wardrobes and dig deep into the depths to create outfits we probably wouldn't have thought of before!

This month's theme is floral, and I knew exactly what I was going to wear. I brought a gorgeous skirt from ASOS maternity a year (!) ago and promised myself that when the weather picked up I would air it out and show it to the world!

The reason I brought the maternity version is because the Curve skirts had sold out and I find, if something is sold out in curve, it will most definitely be in maternity! But I would say that if you decide to buy maternity, size down.

I teamed it with my fav denim shirt and a collar clip which I brought from Select and went with my simple converse for a comfy look.

The ladies and I will be posting on the 7th of each month, and the aim of the challenge is to create an outfit to fit the theme, using clothes from our wardrobes, and yes that does mean digging deep into the depths and finding those long lost clothes! Hopefully one of us won’t end up in Narnia, but you never know with a bloggers wardrobe!

Easter OOTD

 Hello out there!

I hope you all enjoyed the Easter bank holiday with your loved ones.

Here's what I wore on Easter Sunday to church and to visit my husband's relatives.

I brought this skirt from ASOS's main range in a 16. There is a shirt on Curve section but I honestly don't know why the skirt isn't there as well.

The one thing I don't like about this skirt is that there isn't a zip or button in sight. NADA! So in order for me to wear it..I have to put it over my head which is a major pain...but it's worth it :-)

I decided to keep the outfit simple with a white tee from H&M+ and a brown belt that came from an ASOS Curve skater skirt.

Skirt: ASOS
T-Shirt: H&M
Shoes: ASOS (2011)
Belt: ASOS Curve
Gold chain: vintage (aka Mum's jewellery box!)

What did you get up to over Easter?

Workwear

Hello out there!

It has been a while since I have posted an outfit post purely due to the fact I have been immensely busy with work.

Speaking of work, to pay the bills, I work for a medical communications agency where I currently project manage events.

Working on site at an event can get very stressful and busy which means I have to be smart with what I wear as I am on my feet all day and make sure I don't get all sweaty.

So I decided to choose a jersey swing dress (so I don't have to worry about a cardigan), which I brought from my usual ASOS Curve (I also wore in here) that I turned into a top using a simple black belt.
The skirt is also ASOS (main range) which creates a pop of colour and simple black flats from new look (wide fit) for comfort.

What do you wear to work? What do you think about when putting an outfit together?

Simple look with SimplyBe

Hello out there!

Tonight my husband and I met up with the fam for a spot of dinner.

Over the past few months I have been wearing my ASOS Curve leather jacket to death, so I thought it was high time to give it a rest and try something new.

Luckily, as I was browsing the SimplyBe website, I noticed that they were still selling the Grazia leather sleeve jacket which I have been lusting after forever! As I saw the dreaded words, "low in stock" I snapped it up quicker that you can say Jim Robinson!

I kept the overall outfit fairly simply adding a pop of colour with a scarf I got from ASOS back in 2009.

British Plus Size Fashion Weekend

Hello out there!

This weekend saw the very first British Plus Size Fashion Weekend which I first mentioned here. I went along to the fashion show, and they had a great range of designers there, including SimplyBe, Cult of California and One One Three, to name but a few.

I will let the pictures to the talking...

SimplyBe

SimplyBe...not sure why the model looks like a mutant...

Carolyn de la Drapiere...the picture doesn't do the dress justice!

I honestly can't remember who this is but I love the jacket!

Miss Plus Size International - OOTD

Last week I was invited to an interview for the Miss Plus Size International competition (formally Miss BBW International)!

"Miss Plus Size International is a competition where plus size women and their admirers can come together to celebrate the beauty of size in a non judgmental environment and show that some of us do actually appreciate our curves! Most importantly, we show that we are comfortable in our own skin and not intimidated by the continuous pressure from the media to fit into a certain size label to be deemed acceptable in society. We proudly recognise that a great many plus size women do hold down high powered jobs and lead perfectly normal and happy lives. Not everyone wants to be a size zero and we are here to prove that there is life after a size 18!"

I actually found out what I was invited to the interviews the Monday before the interviews which took place on Saturday 26th January so I didn't have much time to plan an outfit!

Luckily I had brought this gorgeous checker board print skirt form asos that I was itching to wear, and teamed it with my trusty peplum dress also from asos curve.

Skirt: asos Peplum dress: asos Wedges: you guessed it, asos!

It was a really fun day, I met some lovely ladies from all over the UK and it was great to see so many positive, confident women.

Until next time!

I'm still learning

Growing up in the UK in the 1990’s, I had my fair share of fashion faux pas, there were shell suits (neon green, pink and grey!), Reebok classics (urgh..) and Ellesse jumpers (let’s NOT go there).

I admit, at 28, I still do make fashion mistakes whilst trying to be creative.

Take this dress:

Looks lovely on her doesn’t it? I thought, wow, this would be good with bare legs and sandals or shoe-boots, or with a denim/leather jacket.

So I went along and brought the sucker. 'I'll be adventurous!' I said...

Now, when I tried the dress on, I loved it, with heels it brought about a 1950’s-esque look....but when it translate onto photo..it didn't look....quite right...

Jacket: ASOS Necklace: H&M Shoes: New Look

Hmm.

Note: to self, the model is 5’10...I am 5’3.

Never. Again.

I guess I am still learning on what suits my body.

Have you ever made a fashion faux pas in order to be creative? Do you know what suits you and what doesn't?

Let me know!

Starry eyed

Happy new year to you all! I hope you are all well and had joyful holidays.

I have such high hopes for 2013, I have so many exciting projects both professionally and personally and I can't wait to share them with you!

So recently I have been noticing a certain trend that I am currently loving at the moment, star/galaxy print clothing.

I first noticed the print on the Domino Dollhouse Astralnauts Collection, where Tracy Broxterman had created some gorgeous pieces including their babydoll dress and pencil skirt (below).

I then noticed two ASOS pieces that had followed the trend, a stunning pair of leggings

Image 1 of ASOS Leggings In Photographic Star Gazer Print

and also, a lovely wrap top from ASOS Curve which I recieved as a belated Christmas present from my husband (aww!).

Image 1 of ASOS CURVE Exclusive Wrap Top In Galaxy Print

I kept my outfit simple as I wanted the top to be the main focus.

Top: ASOS Curve (here), Leggings: H&M, Studded Pumps: Primark

So have you noticed any other pieces similar to this trend, if so, please let me know!
